Music for Miracles Song-writing Contest to
Benefit
the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center
February 19, 2004 – Niskayuna, NY: Legendary local band the Refrigerators, in conjunction with GE, radio station FLY 92.3 (WFLY) and the Albany Medical Center Foundation, Inc., have announced a song-writing contest in which three winners will have their original works recorded by the Refrigerators and each receive a $500 cash prize. The “Music for Miracles” contest will culminate with a summer CD release party to benefit the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.
The band invites everyone with original work – either lyrics or lyrics and tune – to submit their entry online at http://www.the-refrigerators.com/contest. Entrants may also pick up entry forms and complete contest rules at the FLY 92.3/Albany Broadcasting offices at 6 Johnson Road, Latham, during business hours. Songs previously recorded and released through national distribution in any country are not eligible.
A celebrity panel of judges, to include band members and FLY 92.3 personalities, will review all entries received by March 19 and choose three winners based on the quality of lyrics, music, and alignment with the band’s signature funk/pop style. Winners will be announced on or about March 26, 2004, on www.the-refrigerators.com and www.fly92.com and will be notified by mail.
The band will record the three winning songs along with several of their most popular club hits and perform at a public CD release party at Washington Park in Albany on June 27. The band will perform the winning songs and bring the winners on stage. Proceeds from that event and any sales of the CDs will be donated to the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center to help fund vital medical care and research.
Original band member, horn player and percussionist David “DC” Cerrone described the contest as “a fun and meaningful way to tap the huge creative energy in the Capital Region and help a great organization at the same time.” He added, “Our fans, who have supported us for more than a decade, have big hearts, and we think there’s a wealth of talent just waiting for an opportunity like this. Show us what you’ve got, Capital Region!”
The contest runs today through March 19, 2004. There is no fee to enter.

people’s imagination and genius,” said GE spokesperson Jim Healy. “That, along
with the opportunity to support one of our area’s most valuable resources – the
Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center – makes this an incredibly fun and
rewarding event.”
“FLY 92.3 (WFLY) is proud to be a part of this tremendous undertaking,” said Patrick Ryan, Vice President of Marketing for Albany Broadcasting Company. “Showcasing local talent on a locally owned radio station (with proceeds to benefit people from this area) is a great way to demonstrate our continued commitment to Capital Region families,” Ryan remarked. “How exciting to be involved in this new event, culminating with a family concert June 27.
